Alderney Library receives support from Alderney's Twin-Town, Beaumont Hague ....June 2003

For over 50 years the Alderney Library has been housed in rented accommodation and has always been run by volunteers. A new purpose-built library is in the process of construction and appeals have been sent out far and wide for help in this ambitious project.
The Conseil Municipal de Beaumont-Hague in Normandy was approached, as that town is twinned with Alderney. A gift of 500 Euros has graciously been given to the Alderney Library and the presentation was made at a recent visit of the President of Alderney to France.

The photograph shows M Michel Laurent, Maire de Beaumont-Hague (left) with Sir Norman Browse, President to the States of Alderney.

M Laurent said "I am delighted that we are able to contribute 500 Euros to this project and, with the start of a new ferry link between Alderney and Normandy this summer, we can finally look forward to resuming our twinning programme of friendly cultural, educational and sporting exchanges."

The Alderney Library takes this opportunity to thank the Conseil Municipal, and Mayor Michel Laurent of Beumont Hague for following with interest and supporting the Library in this way.
